Nursing careers in the UK offer foreign and domestic candidates a structured route into professional healthcare practice. And unlike the traditional academic degrees, the pre-registration nursing programs in the UK would directly integrate clinical training with professional license which is overseen by the regulatory body, which is the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

Academic and Language Requirements

In order to enter a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Nursing, the applicants will need to satisfy both the institutional academic criteria and strict English proficiency requirements which are set by the NMC.

• Academic Requirement: A minimum of 3.0 GPA or its equivalent would be required in secondary education (A-Levels, High School Diploma or national equivalent) with a mandatory focus on subjects such as Biology, Chemistry or Applied Science.
• English Language Requirement: Applicants will need to provide proof of English competence through one of the two exams:

1. Document assessment and eligibility: English scores, primary nursing qualifications, verification of identity and home country registration are submitted for assessment.
2. Computer Based Test (CBT): Pass a theoretical exam on nursing knowledge given at Pearson VUE test centers around the globe.
3. Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE): Travel to the UK to complete a practical clinical skills assessment conducted at an approved UK university testing center.
4. Final Registration: Upon clearing both CBT and OSCE, complete the character declarations to obtain the NMC PIN.

Career Pathways, Pay Scales and Status of Visa

The graduates from the UK program or individuals who have secured registration are able to open direct pathways towards working within the UK healthcare ecosystem.

• Visa Options: The graduates would transition from a student visa to either a 2-year graduate route visa or can obtain a Health and Care Worker Visa directly from NHS Trusts.
• NHS Pay: The newly appointed nurses can begin at Band 5 on the NHS Agenda for Change pay scale and can expect starting salaries of around £29,979+ per year.
• Settlement: After five years of service the Health and Care Worker Visa allow the individual for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) in the UK, which is basically permanent residency.
